Helping to build the connection between mental health and faith

Mission

At Magnolia Counseling, LLC, I believe that interpersonal relationships are an integral part of life. In order to have healthy relationships with others, we first need to foster healthy relationships with ourselves, and often, this means focusing on prioritizing practicing our Christian faith. I believe that for us to have healthy interpersonal relationships, we need to not only learn relationship skills that include active listening, setting boundaries, appropriate confrontation and effective communication, but we also need to be open to change. Helping others learn to love themselves, while accepting the need to improve is part of the process of getting to know ourselves more. When we are willing to begin this journey, this can include learning more about our identity in Christ. Once we know our identity through the lens of faith, then the need for external validation diminishes.

While I do encourage clients to lean on their Christian faith, I primarily work with clients to understand the root causes of their struggles, such as, anxiety, depression, posttraumatic stress disorder, etc. In understanding underlying causes of the areas of life we want to improve upon, we can gain knowledge. However, here at Magnolia Counseling, clients are encouraged to go beyond knowing information. Clients are encouraged to learn how to apply it to their lives by being open to confronting maladaptive ways of thinking and being to increase in self-awareness. If we learn how to increase self-awareness, to regulate emotions and learn how to feel emotions without allowing them to rule over us or deny and suppress them, then we can increase our emotional intelligence.

If we are wanting to have more fulfilling lives, then we need to be open to changing ourselves and be open to growth. At Magnolia Counseling, I recognize the difficulty of being open to change and the fear that can come with change. However, I also know that hardness of heart can lead be the most harmful life for any individual.  If the struggles of relationships, stress, grief, anxiety, depression and trauma have left a feeling of disconnect from yourself, your loved ones and more importantly from Christ, and you have a willingness to grow, then please reach out and let's talk.
